Roadrunners compete at district championship

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) golf team competed in postseason play at the NJCAA Division II South Central District Championship on Monday and Tuesday, May 2-3 at the par 72 Auburn Hills Golf Course in Wichita, Kansas. SFCC finished seventh at the 54-hole event. SFCC played 36 holes on Monday with the final round contested on Tuesday. SFCC shot a total team score of 1,016, with a 344 in round one, 332 in round two, and a 340 in round three.

Sophomore Kaden Killingsworth recorded the highest individual finish for SFCC, finishing in 20th place, with a score of 80 in all three rounds for a total score of 240. Sophomore Preston Patterson finished 28th individually, with scores of 93, 80, and 80 for a total score of 253. Freshman Matthew Potter finished in a tie for 29th individually with scores of 84, 85, and 89 for a total score of 258. Freshman Payton Presnall finished 33rd with scores of 87, 87, and 101 for a total score of 275. Sophomore Fischer Tharp finished 34th with scores of 101, 88 and 91 for a total score of 280.

"We posted a very nice team score in round two of the three round tournament," said SFCC Head Golf Coach Wayne Ogle. "We had multiple nice individual rounds from some of our student-athletes. Throughout the year, we continue to improve and minimize our mistakes but, at the end of the day we had too many big numbers to really be competitive. I am really looking forward to what next year will bring for our program."
