Roadrunners fall at nationally ranked Mineral Area

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners gave the fifth-ranked Mineral Area College Cardinals all they wanted on Saturday night, February 24 in Park Hills. However, Mineral Area used a stifling defensive effort in the second half to emerge with a 59-48 victory. The game was part of the Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule for both teams.

SFCC (10-17, 3-7 in Region 16) led by 10 points in the first half. Mineral Area fought back to trim the SFCC lead to 36-30 with about 16 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

Mineral Area put together a run to tie the game at 36 with 13 minutes and 57 seconds remaining in the game. The Cardinals pushed the advantage to 55-44 with less than three minutes to go. Mineral Area made the plays in the final minutes to secure the victory.

Freshman guard Steven Samuels led the team in scoring with 16 points. Freshman forward Isaiah Jackson pitched in with 11 points. Freshman guard Mosa Osagie pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman guard Alex Gunnels dished out a team-high four assists.
