The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners opened their Region 16 schedule with a heartbreaking 69-66 home loss to the 16th-ranked Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds on Wednesday, Jan. 10. The game featured nine lead changes and six ties.

SFCC (6-11, 0-1 in Region 16) took a 17-14 lead with nine minutes and 42 seconds remaining in the opening half. Moberly came back to take a 30-24 lead with less than six minutes remaining in the opening half. The Greyhounds held onto a 36-33 lead at halftime. Moberly pushed the advantage to 45-35, the largest lead by either team, in the second half.

SFCC cut the lead to 55-50 with about nine minutes remaining in regulation and took a 58-55 lead with six minutes and 9 seconds remaining. However, the Greyhounds put together a comeback to take a 65-63 lead with 52.9 seconds to go.

SFCC had an opportunity to tie the game on their last offensive possession but were unable to get off a three-point shot.

"We were in a position to win the game," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown." Now, we're at the point where someone has to step up and make a play to finish the game. We had the game won and Moberly stepped up and made plays and we didn't. At the end of the game, against a team like that you have to at least get a shot off."

Sophomore forward Cliff Barrow led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points, including three three-point shots and a team-high six assists. Freshman forward Thomas Diew contributed 14 points. Sophomore guard Avant Coleman added 12 points. Freshman guard Steven Samuels pitched in with 11 points and a team-leading three steals. Freshman guard Alex Gunnels pulled down a team-high nine rebounds in the game.
