Roadrunners split pair of Conference games

Nov. 29 St. Louis Community College in Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners fell at home 82-62 to the St. Louis Community College Archers on Wednesday, Nov. 29 in a Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game.

SFCC led 13-9 with 14 minutes and 42 seconds remaining in the first half. St. Louis fought back to take a 25-23 about five minutes later. The Archers extended the advantage to 38-28 at halftime. St. Louis outscored SFCC outscored 44-34 in the second half to provide the winning margin.

SFCC struggled offensively, shooting only 43.6% from the field, while allowing St. Louis to shoot 58.5% from the field. SFCC made only 28% of their three-point field-goal attempts and 44% of their free throw attempts.

Freshman forward Isaiah Jackson and sophomore guard Avant Coleman tied for the team lead with 15 points each. Freshman forward Thomas Diew added 12 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Freshman guard Alex Gunnels and sophomore forward Cliff Barrow tied for the team lead with three assists. Jackson registered a team-high two steals in the game.

"St. Louis dictated everything in the game," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "St. Louis was physical; they made every shot, a tough shot and every pass, a tough pass. They were a much tougher team physically and mentally then we were tonight. As a team, we have to be more consistent."

Dec. 2 Jefferson College in Hillsboro

SFCC (5-8,1-1 in the MCCAC) bounced back with a 73-51 victory over Jefferson College in Hillsboro in Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game on Saturday, Dec. 2. It was the first matchup between the teams since the 1987-1988 season.

Jefferson led 7-4 early, but State Fair took control of the game on both ends of the floor and led 37-23 at halftime. The Roadrunners used a strong second half to put the game away.

Jackson led SFCC with 17 points on six of eight shooting from the field and five of five from the free-throw line. Barrow went six of 10 for 16 points, six rebounds, and tied for the team lead with five assists, along with freshman guard Ben Miller. Mosa Osagie registered a team-high two blocked shots and tied for the team lead in steals with freshman forward Felly Njilayi with three each. As a team, SFCC shot 54% from the field and 84% from the free-throw line.
