Roadrunners split at Iowa-Missouri Challenge

Nov. 10 Marshalltown Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners emerged with a hard-fought victory in overtime, 67-66 over Marshalltown Community College in the opening round of the Iowa-Missouri Challenge in Ottumwa, Iowa Friday, Nov. 10.

SFCC opened the game on an 8-0 run and led at halftime 36-28. Marshalltown came back to take a 52-49 lead with less than seven minutes left in regulation. SFCC tied the game at 52 with 6:40 remaining in the game. SFCC had a three-point lead in the final seconds, before Marshalltown knocked down a three-point shot to force overtime tied at 62.

The Roadrunners made just enough plays in overtime to secure the important victory.

Isaiah Jackson led SFCC with 18 points, including several big baskets in the second half and in overtime. Jackson also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in a team-high 39 minutes. Jackson also led the team in blocked shots with two. Sophomore forward Cliff Barrow added 16 points off the bench, including four three-point field goals in his first game as a Roadrunner. Freshman forward Thomas Diew scored 13 points. Sophomore guard Elijah Edwards led SFCC with five assists. Freshman guard Alex Gunnels led the team with two steals.

Nov.11 Southeastern Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa

SFCC (3-2) fell to 12th-ranked Southeastern Community College 58-47 to close out their portion of the Iowa-Missouri challenge in Ottumwa, Iowa Saturday, Nov. 11.

Both teams struggled offensively early and SFCC trailed 22-24 at halftime. Southeastern led 38-28 with under 12 minutes remaining in the game. SFCC tried to fight their way back but Southeastern made the plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

Diew put together another solid game with 11 points and nine rebounds, both team highs. Barrow added 10 points. Gunnels led SFCC with three assists and tied for the team lead in steals with Diew with three each.
