Roadrunners continue preseason

The Roadrunners basketball team lost three hard-fought scrimmages at the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Jamboree in Ames, Iowa, on Sunday, Oct. 8. The scrimmage consisted of two 20-minute running clock halves.

SFCC took on Kirkwood Community College in their first scrimmage and lost by four points. SFCC led most of the game but committed too many turnovers down the stretch.

"I thought our defense and rebounding improved greatly from last weekend," said head coach Matt Brown. "Against Kirkwood, I thought we had too many turnovers. We need to continue to work on cleaning up some things offensively. We have to be strong with the ball and come to the pass. Kirkwood is a good team."

SFCC took on Des Moines Area Community College in their second scrimmage and lost that game by four points.

"We had too many careless turnovers in that scrimmage as well," said Brown. "We had careless turnovers in all three games."

In the third scrimmage, SFCC took on Lake Region State from North Dakota and lost that game by five points.

"All three of our scrimmages were very close; we played 11 players and had the opportunity to play a lot of different combinations," said Brown. "Going forward, one of our main focuses will be getting better at taking care of the basketball; we will be in pretty good shape if we can do that."
