Roadrunners drop a pair of Region 16 contests

Jan. 18 - Mineral Area College Cardinals at Sedalia

The Roadrunners lost a hard-fought 75-69 game to the Mineral Area College Cardinals in the Davis Center. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule. Mineral Area is receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Poll.

The Cardinals took a 16-point lead in the second half. SFCC stormed back to cut the deficit to one point with less than six minutes remaining.

"We only had eight guys," said Roadrunners Head Coach Matt Brown. "We played a lot of zone defense; we played man-to-man defense. We mixed it up and gave them everything we had. I'm very proud of the way our guys played tonight. I thought we played a heck of game with eight guys. You want to have a chance to win the game at the end and we had that. That's all you can ask."

Freshman guard Devon Ellis led SFCC in scoring with 22 points. Sophomore wing/forward Dalton Gayman contributed 14 points and a team-high six rebounds. Freshman guard Elijah Bernstein dished out a team-high four assists. Freshman guard Trey Jones led in steals with three.

Jan. 21 - Three Rivers Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (7-14, 1-4 in Region 16) saw a comeback effort fall short in a 76-71 loss to Three Rivers Community College in the Davis Center. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule.

Three Rivers jumped out to a 17-2 lead, but SFCC fought back and trailed by three points at halftime. SFCC tied the game at 32 with less than 18 minutes left on the clock. The remainder of the game was a back-and-forth battle.

Gayman led the team in scoring with 17 points and a team-high six rebounds. Bernstein chipped in 14 points. Sophomore guard Jules Bikoy added 13 points. Ellis contributed 11. Freshman guard Tazir Smith dished out a team-high five assists.

"I was really disappointed in the sophomores tonight," said Brown. "They needed to step up and make plays; 17 assists and 14 turnovers is okay, but we can't get down 17-2. I was disappointed in our effort tonight."
