Roadrunners baseball recaps at KCKCC, St. Charles CC

April 18 - Kansas City Kansas Community College at Kansas City, Kansas

The Roadrunners baseball team fell 12-5 to Kansas City Kansas Community College in a single game on Tuesday, April 18.

Kansas City Kansas scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game. KCKCC tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. SFCC responded with two runs in the fifth, two more in the sixth and one in the eighth.

Freshman outfielder Logan Miller had two hits. Freshman pitcher/infielder Brock Steggall had a hit and two RBIs. Freshman infielder Calen Kruger hit a pair of doubles and scored two runs. Sophomore infielder Conlan Downey had a hit and a run scored. Freshman first baseman Nick Williams hit a home run and drove in two runs. Freshman infielder JC Putnam drove in a run.

Freshman Jacob House got the start on the mound for SFCC. House did not record an out, gave up seven runs (six earned runs) on three hits and walked one. Freshman Brandon Hull pitched one-third of an inning, gave up three runs on two hits, walked two, and struck out one. Freshman Tait Robertson pitched two-thirds of an inning. Freshman Jack Hudson pitched one inning, gave up one hit and walked one. Sophomore Conner Fletcher pitched two innings, gave up two runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out two. Sophomore Austin Droege pitched two innings, gave up one hit and walked one. Sophomore Garrett Dotson pitched two innings, gave up three hits and struck out one.

April 19 - St. Charles Community College at St. Charles

SFCC was swept 5-1 and 13-5 by St. Charles Community College in a Region 16 doubleheader on Wednesday, April 19.

In game one, Miller had two hits, including a triple. Freshman utility player Carter Jenkins had two hits and a run scored. Sophomore infielder Adam Webb drove in a run, and sophomore catcher Benit Thacker recorded a hit.

Sophomore Chase Carson went the distance in the seven-inning contest for SFCC, gave up five runs, struck out nine and walked two.

In game two, Downey had three hits, including a double and a run scored to lead the SFCC offense. Freshman outfielder Sam Russo had two hits and two RBIs. Miller had a double, scored twice and added an RBI. Freshman outfielder Devyn Wright contributed a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Jenkins drove in a run. Webb registered a double.

Freshman Keith Piepmeier got the start on the mound and pitched two innings, gave up two runs on three hits, walked three, and struck out three. Sophomore Christian Whiting came out of the bullpen for SFCC and pitched 1 2/3 innings, gave up three runs on two hits, walked three, and struck out one. Robertson pitched one inning, gave up three runs on five hits and struck out one. Freshman Korbin Bodde pitched 1 2/3 innings, gave up five runs (two earned) on three hits, struck out two, and walked two.

 

April 22 - St. Charles Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (16-29) dropped a pair of close contests to St. Charles Community College at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field. SFCC lost the first game 5-3 in eight innings and the second game 6-5 in seven innings. The doubleheader was part of the Region 16 schedule.

In game one, SFCC led 3-1 going into the top of the sixth inning. St. Charles tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth. Neither team scored in the seventh inning. St. Charles scored two runs the top of the eighth, and the Roadrunners couldn't answer.

Miller had two hits for SFCC and a run scored. Wright added a hit and two runs scored and stole a base. Russo doubled and drove in a run. Webb had a hit and two RBIs.

Sophomore Zach Buschschulte got the start on the mound and pitched six innings, gave up three runs on seven hits, and struck out 11. Steggall pitched the final inning and gave up two runs, (one earned run) on one hit and walked one.

In game two, Miller had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore catcher/second baseman Yeoncheol Choi had two hits, including a double. Russo had a hit and a run scored. Webb added a hit and a run scored. Williams had a hit and an RBI. Downey contributed a hit, two RBIs and a run scored. Jenkins scored a run.

Freshman Andrew Brakensiek got the start on the mound and pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on five hits. Brakensiek struck out two and walked five. Robertson pitched two thirds of an inning, gave up two runs on one hit, walked one, and struck out one. Whiting pitched one inning, gave up one run on one hit, struck out three, and walked two.
