Roadrunners continue season

March 28 Kansas City Kansas Community College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners fell 13-1 in five innings, due to the run rule against Kansas City Kansas Community College at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Tuesday, March 28 in Sedalia.

The SFCC offense was held to just two hits in the contest, a pair of singles from freshman utility player Carter Jenkins. Jenkins also scored the only run for the Roadrunners.

SFCC struggled defensively committing six errors in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Conner Fletcher got the start for SFCC. Fletcher gave up eight runs (four earned runs) on five hits in one-third of an inning, and. Sophomore pitcher Jack Lawton allowed five runs (three earned) on three hits in 1 2/3 innings,. Sophomore pitcher Garrett Dotson pitched two innings and gave up one hit. Freshman pitcher Drew Meyer pitched one inning.

March 30 Jefferson College at Sedalia

SFCC (10-20, 3-9 in Region 16) lost a Region 16 doubleheader at home, 2-1 and 10-6 against Jefferson College at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Thursday, March 30.

In a game in which SFCC committed four errors and was held to only six hits, sophomore catcher Benit Thacker provided the only spark, hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

"We were able to overcome the errors," said Roadrunners Head Coach Jud Kindle. "I give Chase Carson a lot of credit for that one. He pitched his tail off. We just didn't get timely hitting in the game."

Sophomore Chase Carson gave up only three hits, two unearned runs, one walk, and struck out six in a complete game for the Roadrunners.

In game two, freshman outfielder Sam Russo led SFCC with three hits, including a double and four RBIs. Jenkins had a pair of hits, including a home run and two RBIs.

Freshman Keith Piepmeier started and pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up seven runs on eight hits and struck out six. Freshman Korbin Bodde pitched two-thirds of an inning, and gave up two runs on five hits. Freshman Tait Robertson pitched two-thirds of an inning and struck out one. Freshman pitcher Jacob House pitched one inning and struck out two. Freshman pitcher Jack Hudson pitched one inning and walked a batter. Meyer pitched one inning, gave up one run on one hit, walked one and struck out one.

"We got out to an early lead and then we quit hitting," said Kindle. "We gave up a big inning that also hurt us a lot in that game."
