SFCC wins three of four to open the home slate

Feb. 25 Ellsworth Community College at Sedalia

State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners opened the home portion of their schedule splitting a doubleheader with Ellsworth Community College at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Saturday, Feb. 25 in Sedalia. SFCC lost game one 9-1 before bouncing back to win game two, 6-5.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to just two hits. Freshman outfielder Logan Miller had a hit and a run scored in the contest. Sophomore infielder Conlan Downey drove in a run for SFCC in the game.

SFCC sophomore Chase Carson got the start and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed eight runs (two earned) on five hits and struck out two in the loss.

in game two, freshman utility player Carter Jenkins led the SFCC offense with two hits and three RBI. Freshman outfielder John Greenwood hit a home run, drove in two runs, and walked three times. Sophomore infielder Adam Webb tripled, scored a run, drove in a run, and walked twice.

Sophomore pitcher Zach Buschschulte got the start for SFCC. Buschschulte pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up four runs, three of which were earned, on five hits and struck out four. Sophomore pitcher Conner Fletcher pitched the final 1 1/3 innings in relief, allowed one run on three hits and struck out one.

Feb. 26 Ellsworth Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (5-8) swept the doubleheader from Ellsworth Community College 4-3 and 7-1 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Sunday, Feb. 26.

In game one, Jenkins had a pair of hits, including a home run to pace the SFCC offense. Jenkins scored a run and drove in a run. Freshman outfielder Sam Russo doubled and drove in a run. Sophomore catcher/ second baseman Yeoncheol Choi also recorded a double in the game. Downey had a hit, with the SFCC totaling only five hits in the game.

Freshman pitcher Keith Piepmeier got the start for SFCC, and pitched five innings, allowed three runs on 11 hits and struck out one. Sophomore Christian Whitting pitched the final two innings and gave up one hit, walked one, and struck out three.

In game two, Russo added two more hits, including a double and 2 RBI. Jenkins had two hits, drove in a run, and scored one run. Freshman infielder Calen Kruger and sophomore catcher Benit Thacker each hit a double. Kruger also scored a pair of runs. Downey, Thacker, and freshman infielder Kaden McBratney drove in a run each.

Freshman pitcher Andrew Brakensiek got the start and and struck out two batters in five innings and gave up one run on five hits. In relief, freshman pitcher/infielder Brock Steggall pitched one inning and struck out two. Freshman pitcher Jacob House pitched the final inning and struck out one.
