Roadrunners baseball closes road trip on a positive note

Feb. 17 Dallas College North Lake at Irving, Texas

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners fell 7-6 to Dallas College-North Lake in the opening game of their trip to Texas on Friday, Feb. 17 in Irving, Texas.

Freshman outfielder Logan Miller had two hits, including a double and one run batted in. Sophomore infielder Conlan Downey drove in two runs. Sophomore catcher Benit Thacker also drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Freshman outfielder John Greenwood and sophomore infielder Adam Webb each had a double in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Zach Buschschulte got the start for SFCC. Buschschulte pitched five innings, gave up four runs (three earned), on five hits and struck out six. Freshman pitcher Korbin Bodde pitched one inning and gave up one unearned run. Freshman pitcher Andrew Brakensiek got the loss in the final 2 2/3 innings. Brakensiek gave up two runs, one earned on two hits, and struck out one.

Feb. 18 Dallas College- North Lake at Irving, Texas

SFCC dropped another hard-fought 4-3 game to Dallas College-North Lake on Saturday Feb. 18 in Irving, Texas.

The SFCC offense put together seven hits, including a double from freshman middle infielder Calen Kruger and Webb. Webb, Kruger, and freshman middle infielder Kaden McBratney drove in one run each.

Sophomore pitcher Ben Haug got the start for SFCC. Haug pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed three runs, none of which were earned on two hits, struck out seven and walked six. Freshman pitcher/infielder Brock Steggall came out of the bullpen for the final 2 2/3 innings. Steggall gave up one run on two hits, struck out one and was given the pitching loss.

Feb. 18 Cisco College at Irving, Texas

SFCC lost 3-0 to Cisco College on Saturday Feb. 18 in Irving, Texas. The SFCC offense was held to just two hits from freshman outfielder Sam Russo and Green.

Sophomore pitcher Chase Carson got the start on the mound for SFCC. Carson pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed three runs, and no earned runs on five hits. He struck out eight and walked two. Sophomore pitcher Austin Droege pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up one hit and walked four. Sophomore pitcher Garrett Dotson pitched one-third of an inning.

Feb. 19 Dallas College-North Lake at Irving, Texas

SFCC (2-7) closed their second road trip of the season with a 12-2 victory over Dallas College-North Lake in Irving, Texas on Sunday, Feb. 19.

McBratney led the SFCC offense with three hits and two RBIs. Sophomore catcher/second baseman Yeoncheol Choi had two hits, including a double and two runs. Kruger registered two hits, including a double and two runs scored. Russo had a double, a triple, and two runs scored. Miller had two hits, including a double and three RBI. Greenwood hit a home run, scored twice, and drove in a pair of runs. Thacker hit a home run, scored twice, and drove in four runs. As a team, the SFCC offense produced 13 hits.

Freshman Keith Piepmeier got the start and the win for SFCC. Piepmeier pitched six innings, gave up four hits and two unearned runs. He struck out five and walked one. Freshman pitcher Jacob House pitched 1 2/3 innings and struck out two in relief. Sophomore Conner Fletcher finished the game on the mound for SFCC.
