SFCC Baseball opens campaign

Feb. 8 Coastal Alabama-East at Brewton, Alabama

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners opened their season with a pair of losses 6-5 and 17-2 to Coastal Alabama-East in Brewton, Alabama on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

In the opening game, freshman outfielder John Greenwood led SFCC offensively with a double, a home run, and two RBIs. Freshman outfielder Logan Miller had two hits, including a home run. Sophomore catcher Benit Thacker had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs. Sophomore infielder Adam Webb had two hits and one stolen base.

Sophomore Chase Carson got the start for SFCC. Carson pitched three innings, struck out four, gave up three runs, only one of which was earned. Sophomore pitcher Garrett Dotson gave up two runs on two hits in one inning to earn the loss in relief. Freshman pitcher Jacob House gave up one hit, walked one, and struck out one in the final two innings.

In game two of the doubleheader, freshman outfielder Sam Russo had three of the teams six hits, including a double and a run scored.

Sophomore pitcher Zach Buschschulte got the start for SFCC. Buschschulte pitched four innings, gave up six runs, three of which were earned and struck out three to earn the loss.

Feb.9 Lurleen B. Wallace Community College at Andalusia, Alabama

SFCC fell 10-2 to Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, Alabama on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 9.

Miller had a pair of hits, including a double for SFCC. Freshman middle infielder Calen Kruger hit a home run and drove in two runs. Sophomore infielder Conlan Downey had two hits.

Freshman pitcher Drew Meyer got the start for SFCC. Meyer went 1 1/3 innings, allowed six runs on five hits to get the loss.

Feb. 10 Motlow State Community College at Millington, Tennessee

SFCC picked up their first win of the season 1-0 over Motlow State Community College. The neutral site contest was played at Millington, Tennessee on Friday, Feb. 10.

SFCC got an outstanding pitching performance from sophomore starting pitcher Ben Haug, who tossed a complete game shutout in a seven-inning contest, scattered three hits, struck out three, and walked two.

Russo had two hits. Thacker hit a double and scored a run. Miller stole two bases and drove in a run.

Feb. 10 Olney Central College at Millington, Tennessee

SFCC (1-4) closed out their opening week road trip with a tough 4-3 loss to Olney Central College in Millington, Tennessee on Friday, Feb. 10.

Downey led the Roadrunners with three hits, including a home run. Greenwood drove in two runs.

Freshman pitcher Keith Piepmeier got the start for the Roadrunners. Piepmeier pitched five innings, allowed six hits, one run, and struck out seven. Freshman pitcher Andrew Brakensiek came out of the bullpen and pitched 1 2/3 innings, struck out one and gave up three runs, two of which were earned.
