Roadrunners Baseball Recap April 13-18

April 13 John Wood Community College at Quincy, Illinois

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners defeated John Wood Community College 8-1 on Tuesday, April 13 in Quincy, Illinois.

Freshman Jacob McWhirter of Guelph, Ontario paced the SFCC offense with two hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Sophomore catcher Dylan Thompson of Camdenton also drove in a pair of runs. Redshirt freshman outfielder Thomas Brand of Springfield had a double and a run batted in. Redshirt sophomore infielder Clayton Meyer of Sedalia scored two runs.

Sophomore pitcher Connor Barnes of Boonville got the start on the mound for SFCC. Barnes pitched five innings, allowed one hit, and struck out 10 to pick up the victory.

April 15 Jefferson College at Hillsboro, Missouri

SFCC split a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference doubleheader with Jefferson College, losing the first game 8-0 before bouncing back to take game two 13-4 on Thursday, April 15 in Hillsboro, Missouri.

In game one, SFCC was held to just four hits. Sophomore infielder Brady Strickert of Blue Springs had a double. Freshman infielder Brandon Stahlman of Washington had a pair of hits. Freshman infielder Brayden McGinnis of Concordia registered a hit.

Sophomore pitcher Andrew Clark of Belton got the start on the mound for SFCC. Clark pitched five innings, gave up eight runs on eight hits (five of which were earned), struck out seven and walked two.

In game two, SFCC scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game away. The SFCC offense scored 10 runs on 13 hits.

McGinnis had a pair of hits, including a home run and a double, scored one run and drove in four. Freshman catcher/pitcher Zachary Dillman of Lee Summit had three hits, including a pair of doubles, two runs and two RBI. Meyer scored three times. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Tommy Ruether of Washington had a pair of doubles and drove in three runs. Freshman outfielder Drake Miller of Camdenton had a hit, a run scored and two RBI.

Freshman pitcher Tucker Nunnenkamp of Lee's Summit got the start on the mound for SFCC, Nunnenkamp pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed four runs on seven hits to earn the no decision. Sophomore pitcher Peyton Seiz of Holden pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up one run on three hits and struck out four to pick up the win in relief.

April 18 Jefferson College at Sedalia

SFCC (15-22) split a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference doubleheader with Jefferson College, dropping game one 11-10 before bouncing back to win game two 14-6 on Sunday, April 18 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Sophomore Day.

In game one, Dillman had three hits(including a double), scored two runs and  three RBI. Thompson had a double, a home run and drove in five runs. Stahlman also had a pair of hits, including a double and scored two runs. Ruether scored a pair of runs. Freshman infielder Austin Warkins of Haysville, Kansas had one RBI.

Freshman pitcher Roy Holcomb of St. Joseph got the start on the mound for SFCC. Holcomb pitched five innings, allowed four runs on six hits, and struck out six. Freshman pitcher Seth Brecheen of Keller, Texas gave up three runs on two hits and was given the pitching loss.

In game two, SFCC scored early and often putting together 14 runs on 10 hits to secure the doubleheader split. The Roadrunners had home runs from Dillman, Stahlman, Meyer and Strickert. Dillman had two hits and three RBI. Stahlman had two hits, four RBI and two runs. Meyer drove in three runs and scored twice.  Strickert drove in two runs. Ruether had a pair of hits (including a double), scored one run and drove in another. Thompson had a double and a run scored. Miller scored twice.

Sophomore pitcher Antonio Escano of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic pitched six innings, gave up six runs, four of which were earned and struck out seven to earn the victory.
