Roadrunners Baseball Recap April 6-10

April 6 Metropolitan Community College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners got two big offensive performances Tuesday, April 6 in route to sweeping Metropolitan Community College 19-2 and 11-3 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field, both games ended early because of the run rule. The doubleheader was part of the Region 16 schedule for both teams.

In game one, SFCC pounded out 19 runs on 15 hits as a team, including six home runs. Every Roadrunner in the starting lineup scored at least one run. Freshman infielder Austin Warkins of Haysville, Kansas led offensively with four hits, including two home runs, eight RBI, one steal and four runs. Redshirt sophomore infielder Clayton Meyer of Sedalia had three hits, including a double and one run. Freshman catcher/pitcher Zachary Dillman of Lee's Summit had a pair of hits, including a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Freshman outfielder Drake Miller of Camdenton also had a pair of hits, including a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. Freshman infielder/outfielder Jacob McWhirter of Guelph, Ontario hit a home run, drove in three runs, and scored twice. Freshman infielder Brayden McGinnis of Concordia hit a home run, drove in two runs, and scored twice.

Sophomore pitcher Connor Barnes of Boonville went the distance for SFCC. Barnes gave up two runs on five hits and struck out seven.

In game two, the SFCC offense stayed hot with 11 runs on six hits. The Roadrunners blew the game open with nine runs in the bottom the second inning to help secure the victory.

Redshirt sophomore outfielder Tommy Ruether of Washington hit a pair of home runs, tripled, scored three times, and drove in five to lead the SFCC offense. McWhirter had a pair of hits, including a home run and a double to go along with four RBI. Sophomore catcher Dylan Thompson of Camdenton also had a hit in the game. McGinnis drove in a run, along with freshman infielder Brandon Stahlman of Washington.

Sophomore pitcher Antonio Escano of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic got the start and the victory for SFCC. Escano pitched five innings, allowed three runs on five hits, and struck out nine.

April 9 Mineral Area College at Park Hills, Missouri

SFCC dropped a pair of Region 16 games 10-9 and 9-1 to the Mineral Area College Cardinals on Friday, April 9 in Park Hills.

In game one, Ruether launched a pair of home runs, drove in four runs, and scored twice. Stahlman also hit a home run. McWhirter had two hits, including a home run, drove in two runs and scored once. Miller hit a double and two RBI. Warkins registered a pair of hits and a run scored.

Sophomore pitcher Andrew Clark of Belton got the start for the Roadrunners and went four innings and gave up seven runs, five of which were earned and struck out two. Redshirt sophomore Will Knight of Sedalia pitched an inning in relief, gave up two runs on two hits and was charged with the pitching loss.

In game two, the SFCC offense was held to just one run on three hits. Warkins had a hit and a run scored.  McWhirter had a hit and a run batted in. Meyer also had a hit for SFCC.

Freshman pitcher Tucker Nunnenkamp of Lee's Summit got the start for SFCC. Nunnenkamp pitched five innings, allowed four runs on seven hits, walked six batters, and struck out two. Nunnenkamp was given the loss.

April 10 Mineral Area College at Park Hills, Missouri

SFCC (12-20) split a doubleheader winning game one 4-3 before falling  in game two 20-14 to the Mineral Area College Cardinals on Saturday, April 10. The games were part of the Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule for both teams.

In game one, Dillman and. Warkins registered three hits each. Dillman scored twice. Miller added a double and a run batted in. Thompson and Warkins also drove in a run each.

Freshman pitcher Roy Holcomb of St. Joseph got the start and pitched 5 1/3 innings for SFCC. Holcomb allowed three runs on five hits and struck out 12. Redshirt sophomore Tyler Abney of Sedalia pitched 1 2/3 innings. Abney allowed one hit, struck out one and walked one to earn the save.

In game two, Warkins had four hits, including a double and a grand slam. Warkins drove in five runs and scored twice. Dillman drew three walks and scored three times. Redshirt sophomore infielder Seth Kamykowski of Buffalo also hit a home run, scored twice and walked twice. Miller had a double, a run scored, three RBI and walked twice. Thompson had a pair of hits, including a double and two RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Rylie Rokusek of Holden got the start for SFCC.  Rokusek pitched two innings, allowed seven runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out two. Sophomore pitcher Ian O'Malley of Carthage pitched one inning in relief and gave up four runs, one of which was earned on four hits.  Knight pitched one inning, gave up three runs, none of which were earned on two hits. Knight was given the pitching loss.
