Roadrunners Baseball Recaps March 30-April 3

March 30 Johnson County Community College at Overland Park, Kansas

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners fell to fifth-ranked Johnson County Community College 23-5 on Tuesday, March 30 in Overland Park, Kansas.

The Roadrunners' offense was held to just seven hits in the game. Freshman outfielder Rylee Mabe of Steelville had a double and a run batted in the contest. Freshman infielder Brayden McGinnis of Concordia had a double and a team-high two RBI. Redshirt freshman outfielder Thomas Brand of Springfield had another double and a run scored in the game. Freshman infielder Brandon Green of Okotoks, Alberta registered a run batted in and scored once. Sophomore catcher Dylan Thompson of Camdenton scored a pair of runs in the game. Freshman infielder/outfielder Jacob McWhirter of Guelph, Ontario scored a run in the contest.

Sophomore pitcher Antonio Escano of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic got the start on the mound for the Roadrunners. Escano pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up seven runs on six hits, struck out four, in the recorded loss.

April 1 Crowder College at Neosho, Missouri

SFCC was swept by the sixth-ranked Crowder College Roughriders on Thursday, April 1 in Neosho, losing 3-2 and 9-4.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to only five hits. SFCC held the lead for most of the game until the bottom the sixth inning when the Roughriders scored a pair of runs to take the lead. SFCC couldn't get the offense going in the top of the seventh and Crowder earned the victory.

Thompson led the SFCC offense with a pair of hits and a run scored. McWhirter and sophomore outfielder Jordan McClellan of Liberty each recorded a double. Freshman catcher/pitcher Zachary Dillman of Lee's Summit also recorded a hit. McClellan also scored a run. Freshman infielder Brandon Stahlman of Washington drove in a run for SFCC.

Sophomore pitcher Andrew Clark of Belton went the distance on the mound for SFCC. Clark allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out five.

In game two, McGinnis led the SFCC offense with three hits, including a double, two runs scored, and a run batted in. McWhirter had a pair of hits, including a double and two runs scored. Green drove in two runs. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Tommy Ruether of Washington, Missouri had one RBI.

Freshman pitcher Tucker Nunnenkamp of Lee's Summit got the start on the mound for SFCC. Nunnenkamp and pitched five innings, gave up six runs on eight hits and struck out two. Nunnenkamp was given the pitching loss.

April 3 Crowder College at Sedalia, Missouri

SFCC (9-17) dropped two more Region 16 games to sixth-ranked Crowder College 21-4 and 20-4 on Saturday, April 3 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field in Sedalia.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to just seven hits. Dillman registered a pair of doubles and scored two runs. Stahlman also had a double. Ruether had a hit and an RBI. Freshman infielder Austin Warkins of Haysville, Kansas had a hit and a run scored along with McWhirter. Redshirt sophomore infielder Clayton Meyer of Sedalia had a hit and two RBI. Redshirt sophomore infielder Xavier Goudeau of Kansas City drove in a run.

Freshman pitcher Roy Holcomb of St. Joseph got the start on the mound for SFCC. Holcomb pitched two innings, gave up 10 runs, nine of which were earned, and was given the pitching loss.

In game two, the SFCC offense was held to just six hits. Dillman had a home run and a double and drove in two runs. Stahlman also hit a home run in the game and drove in a pair of runs. Ruether and Thompson scored a run each in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Rylie Rokusek of Holden got the start on the mound for SFCC.  Rokusek pitched two innings, gave up nine runs, only five of which were earned and struck out four.  Rokusek was given the pitching loss.
