Tucker Returns to SFCC Soccer Coaching Staff

State Fair Community College head soccer coach Michael Poropat has announced the return of a familiar face to the program. Roberto Tucker has rejoined the SFCC coaching staff as associate head coach after serving as an assistant men's soccer coach at Western Texas College.
While at Western Texas, Tucker helped lead the program to two consecutive conference championships and back-to-back appearances in the regional championship. The team finished the 2023 season with an 8-2-3 record and spent the season ranked No. 12 nationally.
Tucker previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at SFCC. In 2022, he guided the Lady Roadrunners to a program-best 10-4-2 record. That same season, the team set a school record by scoring nine goals in a single match.
He helped lead the Roadrunners men's team to a 7-6-1 record in 2021 and guided the Lady Roadrunners to a then-record nine wins that season, finishing 9-5-1.
In 2020, during the COVID-delayed season played in spring 2021, Tucker led the SFCC men's team to a 4-3-3 record and a Region 16 Tournament semifinal appearance. That same season, the Lady Roadrunners posted a 7-4 regular season record and also reached the Region 16 semifinal round.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Tucker led Inter City, a United Premier Soccer League team based in El Paso, Texas, from 2019 to 2020. He also coached youth programs including Legacy, Dynasty, and Xtreme U-15/U-17 teams in El Paso, and the FC Dallas West U-15 and U-17 squads from 2012 to 2018.
Tucker had a successful high school coaching tenure at Cathedral High School in El Paso from 2002 to 2020, leading the team to a state championship in 2002. He also coached the El Paso Patriots, a professional team, from 1995 to 2000. His coaching career began in 1987 at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he led the men's club team to a national championship in 1989.
As a player, Tucker competed in the Mexican professional second and third divisions.
He holds United States Soccer Federation B and C Licenses and the United Soccer Coaches National Diploma. He earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Texas at El Paso.
