Lady Roadrunners fall in regular season finale

The 19th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners (9-3-2) dropped a 2-1 match to Metropolitan Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in Kansas City.

Sophomore Mariela Rodriguez scored the only goal for SFCC in the 40th minute of the first half. SFCC led 1-0 at halftime, but Metropolitan Community College tied the score in the 49th minute.

"It was an intense game," said Lady Roadrunners Associate Head Coach Roberto Tucker. "We missed a lot of opportunities to score. We had six or seven breakaway opportunities giving us one-on-one matchups against their goalkeeper who made the saves."

SFCC missed a penalty kick with the score tied at one, then Metropolitan Community College counter attacked off the miss and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 65th minute.

"I wanted to give everyone an opportunity to play in this game to get ready for playoffs," said Tucker. "We're going to take a couple of days off to recover, then get to work on our shooting because we missed a lot of opportunities to score. We need to improve our ability to shift in the midfield. We have 10 days to continue to improve and prepare for the postseason. I'm very proud of our team and what we accomplished throughout the regular season."
