Lady Roadrunners tie program record for wins in a season

Oct. 2 Central Methodist University at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners picked up a 3-2 victory over Central Methodist University on Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex in Sedalia.

SFCC scored with a goal from sophomore Mariela Rodriguez with 18 minutes and 25 seconds remaining in the opening half. SFCC scored again with less than a minute remaining on a breakaway goal from freshman Adamaris Ramirez .

Central Methodist scored a pair of goals in the second half to even the match.

The match went into overtime tied at two, neither team scored in the first overtime. However, in the second overtime SFCC scored on a Ramirez rebound goal for the victory.

As a team, SFCC took 12 shots, six of them were on goal. Ramirez and sophomore Briscia Zuniga took a team-high four shots each.

Freshman goalkeeper Nayeli Lopez got the start at goal for SFCC. Lopez made five saves.

"It was a very competitive game," said Lady Roadrunners Associate Head Coach Roberto Tucker. "Our team did very well in transition. We have a few days before our next game. I want to use those days to make sure we get some rest. I'm very proud of our team."

Oct. 8 East Central College at Sedalia

SFCC (9-2-2,3-1-1, in Region 16, 3-0-1 in the MCCAC) earned a 2-1 victory over East Central College on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex in Sedalia.

SFCC got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Rodriguez with six minutes 35 seconds remaining the opening half off a pass from Ramirez. SFCC led 1-0 at halftime.

SFCC struck again in the second half, when Ramirez took the ball down the sideline and turned the corner and drew a penalty kick. Sophomore Flor Moran took the penalty kick to put SFCC up 2-0. East Central cut the lead in half, with a goal with about 16 minutes and 36 seconds remaining in the match.

SFCC took 11 shots as a team in the match. Lopez got the start in goal for SFCC and recorded three saves.

"It was a good game," said Tucker. "This game was a must win for us to get a good seed in the playoffs. We had to make some adjustments to be able to balance our attacking and defending. We will start our postseason soon and I want our girls to be focused on that."
