Lady Roadrunners drop pair of matches

September 21 Metropolitan Community College at Sedalia

The 18th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners fell 2-0 to Metropolitan Community College (MCC) in a Region 16 match at home on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Metropolitan Community College scored off a corner kick with 11 minutes remaining in the opening half. MCC took that 1-0 advantage into halftime. MCC scored with less than 40 minutes to go in the second half to provide the winning margin.

"We did not have the concentration that we had in some other games," said Lady Roadrunners Associate Head Coach Roberto Tucker. "The corner kick we gave away was unnecessary. We played well in the beginning and our transition was good. We just didn't score."

Freshman Adamaris Ramirez registered a team-high four shots, one of which was on goal. As a team, SFCC registered 10 shots, four of which were on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Mosher got the start in goal for SFCC and made four saves.

September 24 Southwestern Illinois College at Sedalia

The 18th ranked Lady Roadrunners (5-2-2, 2-1-1 in Region 16) fell 4-0 to 14th-ranked Southwestern Illinois College at home on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Southwestern Illinois got on the scoreboard with less than seven minutes remaining in the opening half to take a 1-0 lead. They would add three second half goals to provide the winning margin.

As a team, SFCC recorded seven shots, five of which were on target. Sophomore Mariela Rodriguez, Ramirez, and sophomore Briscia Zuniga recorded two shots each.

Freshman goalkeeper Nayeli Lopez got the start in goal for the Lady Roadrunners and played the first half. Mosher played the second half to finish the game for SFCC. Lopez and Mosher recorded four saves each.

"It was a very tough game," said Tucker. "We knew this game was going to be a battle. Unfortunately, we had three or four opportunities to score, but didn't. Southwestern Illinois capitalized on their opportunities. Our transition play was not fast enough. Southwestern Illinois is a very good team. We just need to bounce back and get ready for next game."
