The 19th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners (9-5-1) saw their season come to an end with a 1-0 loss to Metropolitan Community College in Sedalia on Sunday, Oct. 24. The game was played on turf at Tiger Stadium at Smith-Cotton High School because of wet field conditions and weather concerns at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex.
Metropolitan Community College scored the only goal in the match with just over 30 minutes remaining in the opening half off a shot from outside the box.
"We had to adjust our back line due to an injury," said Lady Roadrunners Head Soccer Coach Jaime Beltran. "While we were trying to adjust, we had a miscommunication in the back line. They had one chance on goal and put it away. We hit the goalpost once and hit the goalkeeper a couple of times. It just wasn't our day."
SFCC almost tied the game before halftime but, the goal was disallowed. SFCC had other chances throughout the contest but could not convert.
Freshman goalkeeper Savannah Romero got the start in net for SFCC.
"Our women's program has become a great regular-season team," said Beltran. "We just have to figure out what's missing and learn how to win in the playoffs."
