Sept. 29 Mineral Area College at Farmington, Missouri
The 18th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners fell 1-0 to 14th ranked Mineral Area College on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Engler Park in Farmington, Missouri.
Both teams battled in the opening half. The score remained tied until the 84th minute when Mineral Area found the back of the net off a penalty kick.
"We had a couple of chances to go-ahead," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "The clearest was on a shot from Briscia Zuniga from the edge of the box with about five minutes left in the game. They made a fingertip save. There was also a very questionable penalty kick call against us, from which they scored, and that is difference in the game. That aside, our girls played well enough."
Freshman goalkeeper Savannah Romero got the start in the net for SFCC and made six saves. Zuniga and freshman midfielder Ally Woolery took three shots each, two of which were on target.
"It was an excellent battle," said Lady Roadrunners Assistant Coach Roberto Tucker. "I thought our team played at a good level. We are battling some injuries. It was a similar type of game to the one that we played against them here. It was good game between two ranked teams."
