Women’s Soccer Recap August 24-28

Aug. 24 Southeast Community College Beatrice, Nebraska

The 20th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners won back-to-back games with a 3-2 victory over Southeast Community College on Tuesday, August 24 in Beatrice, Nebraska with a temperature of 105° at kickoff.

Sophomore midfielder Skyler Sweezor scored the opening goal in the match in the 12th minute. Freshman forward Carly Roberts tacked on a goal in the 47th minute off a pass from freshman midfielder Ally Woolery.

Southeast got on scoreboard in the 52nd minute.

Freshman forward Sabra Moon finished the scoring for SFCC in the 56th minute with another assist from Woolery.

Southeast struck again in the 74th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Savannah Romero got the start in net for SFCC and recorded four saves.

"We played well in spurts," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We have to be more consistent. If we play a full 90 minutes, I know this team is going to go far. I'm proud of our 2-0 start. We have some things that we need to fix but, fortunately we have some time to continue to work on things before we get into Region play, which is our highest priority."

 

Aug. 28 Southeast Community College at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex

SFCC (3-0) opened the home portion of their schedule with a 2-0 victory over Southeast Community College on Saturday, Aug. 28 in Sedalia.

SFCC continued their pattern of scoring early when Moon put the Lady Roadrunners on the scoreboard with 43 minutes and 19 seconds remaining the opening half, courtesy of an assist from sophomore midfielder Skyler Sweezor.

SFCC got what would prove to be the final goal of the match when Woolery dribbled down the touchline, turned the corner, and drove a shot into the net with less than 21 minutes remaining in the half.

Romero got the start in net for SFCC and secured the first shutout of the season. Romero made seven saves in the match.

"Our team played very well," said Beltran. "We knew what Southeast wanted to do, and we had the game plan that pretty much shut them down. We were able to get two great goals on the counterattack and a couple other opportunities. I was proud of our team and it's great to see them begin the season 3-0."
