State Fair Community College (SFCC) Head Soccer Coach Jaime Beltran recently announced the Lady Roadrunners 2021 roster. The group will include a large group of returners coming off the best season in the history of the Lady Roadrunners program.
SFCC ended the regular season ranked 19th in the national poll. SFCC finished with a program record seven victories and advanced to the Region 16 semifinal round.
The returners for the Lady Roadrunners include, Maddi Bradbury of Australia; Natalie Clarke of England; Destiny Dodge of Odessa; Sabra Moon, Jade Stevenson and Megan Toops of Sedalia; Savannah Romero of Las Cruces New Mexico; Skyler Sweezor of Linn Creek; Carly Roberts of Higginsville; and Briscia Zuniga of Houston, Texas.
"We did well last season," said Assistant Coach Roberto Tucker. "Now the challenge is to maintain that and come back strong again. It's going to be tough, but we have a lot of faith in our team."
The Lady Roadrunners newcomers include, Valerie Anchondo, Delilah Calvillo, Jianiva Flores, Yesenia Garcia, Mia Mendiola, Flor Moran, Natalie Muela, Jacqueline Murillo and Andrea Ramirez of El Paso, Texas; Madison Mosher of Stover; and Ally Woolery of Sedalia.
Beltran is looking forward to having the season back in its usual fall place on the calendar, as opposed to last year's competition, which took place in the spring.
"I feel like we will be able to do things the way we're used to doing them, even if there are some adjustments in terms of preseason, in terms of getting the team here and going through a process of getting them to bond as a team."
Coach Beltran feels that defense will be the strength of the team this year.
"We bring back three of the four starters from a team that gave up almost no goals in regular season last year, said Beltran. "We were able to add some players who will be able help us defensively. On paper, if we play the way we are supposed to, we will be difficult to score on."
The Lady Roadrunners' season opens on the road on Saturday, Aug. 21 against Scott Community College in Bettendorf, Iowa. The Lady Roadrunners' home opener against Southeast Community College will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28. The entire 2021 schedule is available at www.sfccmoroadrunners.com.
