Women’s Soccer Recap April 26-May 1

April 26 East Central College at Union, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners shutout 20th ranked East Central College 8-0 on Monday, April 26 in Union. SFCC is receiving votes in the NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer Poll this week.

Forward Sabra Moon of Sedalia got the goal scoring started for SFCC in the 10th minute off a pass from forward Carly Roberts of Higginsville. Forward Briscia Zuniga of Houston, Texas scored in the 15th minute with an assist from forward Destiny Dodge of Odessa. Roberts scored in the 20th minute with an assist from Zuniga. Zuniga found the back of the net once again with an assist from defender Maleah Ray of Columbia in the 22nd minute. Ray scored a goal in the 29th minute off an assist from Zuniga. Defender Jenna Bellis of Stover scored a goal off an assist from defender Megan Toops of Sedalia in the 47th minute. Midfielder Emily Bauer of Stover scored off an assist from defender Leah Overbay of Harrisonville in the 55th minute. Bellis scored the final goal for SFCC in the 63rd minute with an assist from Bauer.

SFCC recorded 37 shots in the game, 21 of which were on target.

"There were a lot of different players who were able to help us offensively," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We were able to play a lot of people and give them some opportunities. It was a good showing for our team."

Goalkeepers Savannah Romero of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Maddi Bradbury of Australia combined to earn the shutout in goal for SFCC. Romero recorded one save.

May 1 Metropolitan Community College at Kansas City, Missouri

SFCC (7-3) defeated Metropolitan Community College 2-0 on Saturday, May 1 in Kansas City. The win was the third in a row for the Lady Roadrunners.

After a scoreless first half, Roberts scored off a pass from Zuniga in the 43rd minute. Roberts found the back of the net again in the 51st minute off a pass from Moon to provide the winning margin. Moon led the team in shots with four, two of which were on target.

"It was a good performance from our team," said Beltran. "We were going against a very strong wind in the first half. It made it harder than usual to get things going. We had full control of the game in the second half. We were able to break the program record for most wins in a season, that's a pretty cool accomplishment in a shortened season."

Romero recorded the shutout in net for SFCC making three saves.
