Lady Roadrunners Soccer Postseason Tournament Recap

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners (1-15) saw their season come to an end in the Semifinal Round of the Region 16 Tournament with a 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Community College Archers on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd in St. Louis.

The Archers opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. They scored again in the 25th minute and would score two more times in the first half to take a 4-0 lead at the break.

SFCC got on the scoreboard in the 49th minute with a goal from sophomore defender Sydney Rickel of Lee's Summit in her final game as a Lady Roadrunner courtesy of a pass from sophomore midfielder Melissa Martinez of Bolivia also in her final game at SFCC.

The Archers scored one more time to finish the game.

"All of the goals for St. Louis came off set pieces," said Lady Roadrunners Associate Coach Dan Martin. "Going into the game, we knew we had to limit corners and not foul in our defensive third of the field."

Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Curphey of Raymore, Missouri got the start in the net for SFCC. She recorded seven saves in her final game at SFCC.

Martin was proud of the effort his sophomore class put forth throughout their careers at SFCC.

"They are a great group," said Martin. "I think we were just missing a goal scorer. We lost seven games by one goal. They brought a lot to the table. It will be tough to replace them."
