Lady Roadrunners Soccer Recap Oct. 19

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners lost 3-2 to St. Louis Community College in St. Louis on Saturday, Oct. 19 in a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference match.

St. Louis opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. The Lady Roadrunners responded with a goal in the 32nd minute from sophomore midfielder Kimberly Rosas of El Paso, Texas off of a pass from freshman midfielder Skyler Sweezor of Linn Creek.

St. Louis scored again in the 37th minute to take a 2-1 lead into halftime and scored again in the 50th minute to extend the advantage to 3-1. SFCC scored on a goal from freshman forward Alexandra Herring of Oak Grove courtesy of a pass from sophomore forward Hannah Chapman of Warsaw.

"It was a very good game," said Lady Roadrunners Associate Head Coach Dan Martin. "We had really good film on St. Louis. The girls were able to stick to the game plan. There weren't many scoring opportunities for either team early on, but we continued to battle in the second half and had our chances. We are getting better."

Sophomore goalkeepers Samantha Curphey of Raymore and Atziry Plascencia of El Paso, Texas shared time in the net for SFCC. Curphey recorded two saves. Plascencia had three saves in the match.

SFCC (1-14, 0-6 in Region 16, 1-2 in MCCCAC) will travel back to St. Louis on Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a Region 16 Tournament Semifinal against the Archers. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
