Sept. 30 Central Methodist University at Sedalia
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners lost 3-2 to Central Methodist University (CMU) on Monday, Sept. 30 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex.
CMU scored with 37 minutes and 20 seconds remaining in the opening half. They would score again with 12 minutes and five seconds remaining in the half.
The Lady Roadrunners got their offense going late in the first half with a goal from sophomore midfielder Hailie Acton of Fulton, who placed a free kick into the upper corner of the goal to cut the halftime deficit to 2-1.
SFCC tied the game with a goal from freshman midfielder Skyler Sweezor of Linn Creek, off an assist from Melissa Martinez of Bolivia with 38 minutes and 20 seconds remaining in the game.
CMU scored the game-winning goal with about nine minutes remaining.
"I felt like we had more chances to score," said Lady Roadrunners Associate Head Coach Dan Martin. "We were able to move the ball a little better today. We just didn't capitalize on all the opportunities that we created."
SFCC had 14 shots, eight of which were on goal. Acton recorded a team-high seven shots and Martinez registered six.
Sophomore goalkeeper Atziry Plascencia of El Paso, Texas got the start in the net for SFCC. She recorded five saves in the match.
Oct. 5 Jefferson College at Hillsboro, Missouri
SFCC picked up their first win of the season 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 5 against Jefferson College in a Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game.
"It was awesome for our team to get their first win of the season," said Martin. "As the clock was winding down all the girls were lined up and even our guys team was lined up in support."
Jefferson took a 1-0 lead into halftime. SFCC tied the game in the 55th minute with a goal from Martinez, on a ball that bounced across the box. Freshman midfielder Ash Lawson of Australia scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 74th minute off of an assist from sophomore forward Hannah Chapman of Warsaw.
Acton led the team in shots with three. Plascencia got the start in goal for SFCC and she recorded two saves.
"I hope this sparks us because this team has worked hard all year," said Martin. "I think that shows a lot about their mental toughness."
The Lady Roadrunners record currently stands at (1-13, 1-1 in the MCCAC). SFCC will travel to St. Louis on Saturday, Oct. 12 for a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference match against St. Louis Community College. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
