Women’s Soccer Recap Oct.2-7

Oct. 2 Southwestern Illinois College at Belleville, Illinois

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners traveled to Belleville, Illinois on Tuesday, Oct. 2 where they dropped a 5-1 match against Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC).

SWIC scored a pair of goals in the first 30 minutes. SFCC responded with a goal from freshman forward Alys Beadle of England, who was assisted by sophomore midfielder Raleigh Johns of Osage Beach. Southwestern Illinois added two second-half goals to provide the winning margin.

"This game was pretty similar to our last game against them this season," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We played alright. We had good control of the ball when we needed to. We had a couple of breakdowns and they were able to take advantage. They also had a lot of speed on the outside."

Freshman midfielder Hailie Acton of Fulton and Beadle tied for the team lead in shots with two. Freshman goalkeeper Atziry Plascencia of El Paso, Texas started the game in net for SFCC. She recorded six saves in the match.

Oct. 5 Lewis and Clark Community College at Sedalia

SFCC dropped a 4-0 match to sixth-ranked Lewis and Clark Community College on Friday, Oct. 5 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex in Sedalia.

Lewis and Clark opened the scoring with less than 20 minutes remaining in the opening half. They added another goal to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Lewis and Clark added two goals in the second half.

Johns and freshman midfielder Ria Kessell of Jefferson City had the only two shots in the match for State Fair. Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Curphey of Kansas City got the start in the net for the Roadrunners, where she recorded 10 saves on the day.

"They are undefeated and ranked for a reason," said Beltran. "I don't feel like we played them badly. We gave up a couple goals on some set pieces where things just bounce their way. In the second half, we played fairly even with them. I thought we played good defense in the game except for the final goal. It wasn't a bad game, our effort was there."

Oct. 7 St. Louis Community College at St. Louis

SFCC (6-8, 2-1 in Region 16, 2-1 in the MCCAC) closed out the region and conference portion of their schedule with a hard-fought 1-0 overtime victory on Sunday, Oct. 7 in a match against the St. Louis Community College Lady Archers.

"The girls played a really good game against St. Louis," said Beltran. "We had a couple of chances to win the game in regulation, but as sometimes happens in soccer, it was hard to score. St. Louis is a good team."

SFCC found the back of the net late in the first overtime. Kessell scored the game winning goal when she dribbled the ball all the way into the box and shot it past the goalkeeper.

State Fair registered 10 shots in the match, five of which were on target. Beadle led her team in shots with three. Plascencia earn the shutout in goal for SFCC. She made six saves.
