Sept. 22 St. Charles Community College at Cottleville, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners were in Cottleville, Missouri on Saturday, Sept. 22 for an important Region 16 match where they lost in overtime by a score of 3-2. The match was also part of the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule.

St. Charles got on the scoreboard first with a goal in the seventh minute. They found the back of the net again in the 21st minute.

SFCC got on scoreboard in the 26th minute with a goal from sophomore forward Jessica Coble of Sedalia. She was assisted by fellow sophomore forward Bianca Meza of El Paso, Texas. SFCC tied the match in the 34th minute when Meza scored on a pass from freshman midfielder Ria Kessell of Jefferson City.

The match remained tied at two until the first overtime, when St. Charles scored to secure the hard-fought victory.

"The girls played very well," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We gave up an unfortunate goal early in the match. I was proud of the way that we were able to battle back. We had a couple chances in overtime, but as can happen in a golden goal situation, St. Charles had one breakthrough and that's all it takes."

Coble led her team with three shots, two of which were on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Atziry Plascencia of El Paso, Texas got the start in the net for SFCC. She recorded two saves in the match.

Not only was this a Region 16 match, but the game was also part of the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule.

Sept. 23 Southwestern Illinois College at Sedalia

SFCC (4-6, 0-1 in Region 16, 1-1 in the MCCAC) lost to Southwestern Illinois College 6-0 in Sedalia on Sunday, Sept. 23.

"Southwestern Illinois definitely did enough to win," said Beltran. "They deserved the win, but I don't believe the score tells the whole story about that match. We had played a game the day before that went into overtime and we don't have much depth. We gave up three goals late in the game on breakaways that were result of tired legs. I don't have a whole lot of negative things to say. I thought our girls defended well for 70 minutes. I felt like our girls performed much better than that score line indicates."

Freshman forward Alys Beadle of England led her team in shots with four, three of which were on goal. Plascencia split time in goal with fellow freshman goalkeeper Samantha Curphey of Kansas City. Plascencia got the start and recorded five saves. Curphey added two.
