Lady Roadrunners shutout Central Methodist

The Lady Roadrunners used a pair of second half goals to defeat the Central Methodist University junior varsity 2-0 on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 20, in their final match of the regular season.

SFCC (3-7-2) got on the scoreboard with 12 minutes remaining in the second half courtesy of a goal from defender Sarah Garcia. She found the ball in front of the net and scored. Midfielder Kristen Farrell dribbled the ball, cut it back across and scored with her left foot with eight minutes and 40 seconds remaining in the second half.

"It was good to see our players get rewarded for playing better," said Lady Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Eddie Horn. "The most exciting thing for me was that we were finally able to get a shutout. If we are going to advance in the playoffs, we have to be able to win games 1-0."

Goalkeeper Kylie King recorded the shutout in goal for SFCC.

SFCC will now turn its attention to the Region 16 Tournament. The Lady Roadrunners will play at St. Louis Community College in St. Louis on Monday afternoon, Oct. 24, in the opening round of the tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
