Late goal lifts Lady Roadrunners to victory

The Lady Roadrunners played host to the Metropolitan Community College-Blue River Lady Trail Blazers in a Region 16 match on Oct. 11. The match was scoreless until SFCC defender Morgan Coffman lifted the ball just over the outstretched arm of the Blue River goalkeeper with about two minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the second half. SFCC (2-6-2, 1-2-1 in Region 16) used its defense to close out the victory 1-0.

"Morgan won the ball through two tackles, beat another player and put it over the goalkeepers head," said Lady Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Eddie Horn. "I am extremely happy for her. She is a hard worker. It was nice to see her have a big game-winning goal in a dramatic fashion."

Freshman goalkeeper Kylie King anchored the Lady Roadrunners' defense recording 25 saves in the match and earning the shutout.

SFCC continues their home stand on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 15, when Southwestern Illinois College comes to town for a 1 p.m. match at the Sports Complex west of the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
