Lady Roadrunners tie season opener

Lady Roadrunners tie season opener

The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners traveled to St. Charles on Tuesday, Aug. 23, to take on the St. Charles Community College Cougars. The match was the first in program history for the Lady Roadrunners.

"In the first half, it was really an even game," said Head Soccer Coach Eddie Horn. "We had the ball, and we were able to create a few chances. I was pleased with our performance."

SFCC (0-0-1, 0-0-1 Region 16, 0-0-1 Missouri Community College Athletic Conference) scored first courtesy of a goal from forward Alyssa Laird in the 55th minute off a pass from Lauron Tanguay.

The Cougars, who are receiving votes in the NJCAA Division I Preseason Women's Soccer Rankings, tied the score with a goal in the 89th minute. The match ended in 1-1 after neither team could find the back of the net after two overtime periods.

"We defended well," said Horn. "I was pleased with our defending shape and the aggressiveness with which we played. Everybody who entered the game played extremely well. It was truly a team effort."

Kylie King got the start in goal for the Lady Roadrunners. She recorded 15 saves in the match.

SFCC will be back in action on the road at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, when they take on St. Louis Community College in another Region 16 and MCCAC match.
