Lady Roadrunners tie in first scrimmage

The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners took to the field in scrimmage action for the first time in program history on Aug. 17 in Sedalia against Kansas City Kansas Community College. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.

Both teams had opportunities to find the back of the net in the first half. Freshman Morgan Coffman shot a ball that glanced off of the upper corner of the goal.

"That was a great restart by Morgan," said Lady Roadrunners Head Soccer Coach Eddie Horn. "She had another direct kick that their goalkeeper made a good save on."

Coach Horn saw positives from the scrimmage.

"Overall, it was a good jumping off point for us," said Horn. "It was good to play another college. We saw a number of good things, and we know what we need to improve. I was pleased with our defensive shape. Kylie King made a great save midway through the first half. Maddie Davidson's ability to play behind their back four players was good."

SFCC travels to Columbia College on Saturday, Aug. 20, for their final preseason scrimmage. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.

"We're going to have to sit in more defensively and play on the break a bit more," said Horn. "Columbia College is very good. They'll have the ball a lot and that will test our defense. We need to make sure we keep our defensive shape."
