Dec. 3 Central Methodist University Junior Varsity at Sedalia
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners basketball team defeated the Central Methodist University Junior Varsity 117-39 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center in Sedalia on Tuesday night, Dec. 3. The point total was the highest for SFCC so far this season.
The Lady Roadrunners led 26-7 at the end the first quarter. SFCC pushed the advantage to 46-22 at halftime. SFCC found another gear in the final two quarters and cruised to victory.
"We found more energy in the second half and ended up playing better as a team," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "Our second half was much better. Everyone got a chance to get on the floor. I like the way that we share the ball when we get out and run."
Every Lady Roadrunner who played scored. SFCC shot 63.2 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range. The Lady Roadrunners recorded 36 assists as a team and 19 steals.
Freshman guard Sophia Edwin recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 assists to lead the team in both categories. Freshman forward Ellie Buscher pitched in with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Kimora McClure scored 12 points and a team-high six steals. Freshman guard Chiney Idika, freshman forward Nevaeh Hill and freshman guard Maddy Queathem added 12 points each. Sophomore guard La'Tommas Johnson-Nash and freshman forward Shae Wright contributed 10 points each. Freshman forward Zakiyah Brownlee led the team in blocked shots with four.
Dec. 7 Southwestern Illinois College at Belleville, Illinois
SFCC defeated Southwestern Illinois College 73-52 in the Missouri-Illinois Shootout in Belleville, Illinois on Saturday, Dec. 7. SFCC outscored Southwestern Illinois in every quarter with the victory.
The Lady Roadrunners took control of the contest outscoring Southwestern Illinois 24-11 in the third quarter.
McClure led the team in points and assists with 18 and five respectively. Freshman guard Malia Rodgers added 13 points. Sophomore guard Madison Johnson and sophomore forward Kayla Sullivan scored 10 points each. Buscher, Wright and freshman forward Carolyn Foster all tied for the team lead in rebounds with six. Johnson and Johnson-Nash tied for the team lead in steals with two. Wright led the team in blocked shots with two.
Dec.15 Lewis & Clark Community College at St. Louis
SFCC (13-1) closed out the first semester with a 97-41 victory over Lewis & Clark Community College on Sunday, Dec. 15 on a neutral floor in St. Louis. The Lady Roadrunners never allowed more than 13 points in any quarter.
Queathem led SFCC offensively with 20 points, including six of 11 from three-point range. Johnson scored 16 points. Hill pitched in with 14 points. Sullivan registered 12 points and a team-high five steals. Buscher pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds. McClure dished out a team-high nine assists. Buscher and Johnson-Nash tied for the team lead in blocked shots with two.
As a team, SFCC shot 51.4 percent from the field and 50 percent on 13 of 26 from the three-point line The Lady Roadrunners also had 24 assists and 21 steals.
