Lady Roadrunners win three games at home

Nov. 25 Haskell Indian Nations University Junior Varsity at Sedalia
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners basketball team defeated Haskell Indian Nations University Junior Varsity 105-53 i in front of 600 to 700 local elementary students on Field Trip Day inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center in Sedalia on Monday afternoon Nov. 25.
SFCC jumped out to an early 9-0 lead with six minutes and 46 seconds remaining in the opening quarter and never looked back. SFCC pushed the advantage to 51-20 at halftime.
"It was a great atmosphere with all of the kids," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "They had a good time. Our kids had a good time. I think it's awesome when you can get the students in here. It is a great lead into their Thanksgiving break. There are a lot of things that our team needs to still clean up. I loved our girls energy and their interaction with the kids, I thought they did a great job."
Sophomore guard Kimora McClure led SFCC with 19 points. Freshman guard Malia Rodgers scored 15 points. Sophomore guard Madison Johnson added 15 points. Freshman forward Carolyn Foster pitched in with 10 points and added eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals (all team highs). Sophomore guard La'Tommas Johnson-Nash also pulled down eight rebounds.
Nov. 29 Spoon River College at Sedalia
SFCC opened their portion of the SFCC Thanksgiving Classic with a 109-35 victory over Spoon River College inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center in Sedalia on Friday, Nov. 29. SFCC controlled the contest from beginning to end. Every Lady Roadrunner who played scored.
SFCC led 10-4 with less than six minutes remaining in the opening quarter and cruised to victory.
Freshman forward Ellie Buscher led a balanced scoring attack with 18 points. Sophomore forward Kayla Sullivan contributed 15 points. Freshman guard Chiney Idika scored 14 points. McClure added 13 points. Freshman forward Shae Wright recorded 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Rodgers dished out a team-high six assists. Foster led the team with three steals. Freshman forward Zakiyah Brownlee led the team with two blocked shots.
"We did not know a lot about Spoon River," said Collier. "We're still in the process of perfecting what we do offensively and the details of how we want to guard. We are not there yet, but the effort is there, and the energy is there. We will get there. I think the girls enjoyed the game. Our bench energy was really good. We have to lock in to be ready to go tomorrow."
Nov. 30 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at Sedalia
SFCC (10-1) closed out the SFCC Thanksgiving Classic with a hard-fought 65-63 victory over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center in Sedalia on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30.
The Lady Roadrunners led 18-9 at the end of the first quarter. Northeastern Oklahoma refused to go away, which was a theme in the entire contest. Northeastern Oklahoma cut the SFCC halftime advantage to 34-28. SFCC led 54-42 at the end of the third quarter.
Northeastern Oklahoma knocked down a big three-point shot to cut the SFCC advantage to 59-57 with one minute and 26 seconds remaining in regulation. SFCC held a one-point lead with 19 seconds remaining in the game.
SFCC inbounded the ball to Johnson who was fouled and made one of two free throw attempts. SFCC grabbed the offensive rebound. Northeastern Oklahoma fouled McClure on the ensuing possession. McClure went to the free-throw line and knocked down a pair of free throws to make the score 64-60 with 10.4 seconds remaining.
SFCC made just enough plays in the final seconds, including a defensive stop on the final possession of the game to secure the victory.
"We were able to grind this game out," said Collier. "There were moments where I felt like we could've pulled away and we had some silly mistakes and quick shots that probably weren't needed. We were able to finish the game and hit some free throws. We had a critical offensive rebound from Ellie. It is easier to learn from a win than it is a loss."
Buscher registered a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Buscher also led the team in blocked shots with three. Rodgers contributed 16 points and a team-high six assists. McClure added 14 points. Freshman guard Sophia Edwin led the team in steals with three.
