Jan. 28 Metropolitan Community College at Kansas City, Missouri
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners lost to the Metropolitan Community College (MCC) Wolves 78-74 in Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The contest featured 11 lead changes and seven ties.
MCC took an 11-point lead in the second quarter. The Lady Roadrunners dominated the rebounding category to stay in the contest and trimmed the deficit to one point at halftime. SFCC out rebounded the Wolves by 19 in the contest and won the battle in second chance points 27-14. However, MCC made just enough plays in the second half to emerge with a victory.
Freshman guard Ryann Haynes of St. Louis led a balanced scoring attack with 20 points. Sophomore guard/forward Nadia Thorman-McKey of Evanston, Illinois registered a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds and led the team in steals with three. Sophomore guard/forward Connor Watkins of Charleston, Missouri registered a double-double with 15 points and a team-high 15 rebounds and a team-high eight assists and one blocked shot. Freshman guard Laila McNeal of Chicago, Illinois added 11 points.
"We were able to keep the game close," said Bucher. "We don't have much depth because of injuries. It was a great game that went down to the wire. I want us to play hard and compete. I was pleased with our effort. I just wish we would've been able to finish it off."
Feb. 1 Three Rivers Community College at Poplar Bluff, Missouri
SFCC (6-18, 0-6, 2-5 in the MCCAC) fell 111-53 to the Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Poplar Bluff. The game was part of the Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule for both teams. Three Rivers is receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Poll. The Lady Raiders led 27-17 at the end of one quarter; a lead they would never surrender.
McNeal and Haynes tied for the team lead in scoring with 13 points each. Watkins pitched in with 11 points and a team-high two steals. Thorman-McKey pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists in the game.
