Jan. 22 Crowder College at Neosho, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners lost a Region 16 game 76-61 to the Crowder College Lady Riders on Wednesday, Jan. 22 in Neosho, Missouri.

SFCC was led in scoring by sophomore guard/forward Nadia Thorman-McKey of Evanston, Illinois with 23 points. She also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman guard Ryann Haynes of St. Louis, Missouri scored 14 points. She also registered a team-high four steals. Freshman guard Aleah Bell of Margate, Florida recorded a team-high three assists.

"It was a close game all the way through," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "They went on a 10 point run at the beginning of the game. We were able to get the lead to four points, but couldn't get any closer. It was much closer than the first time we played Crowder. It was a close game until the middle of the fourth quarter, that is where our lack of depth came into play. Crowder played well; it was a game that could have gone either way."

Jan. 25 Mineral Area College at Park Hills, Missouri

SFCC (6-16, 0-5 in Region 16, 2-4 in the MCCAC) lost 92-58 to the Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals on Saturday, Jan. 25 in Park Hills, Missouri. Mineral Area used a 27-12 run in the second quarter to take control of the contest.

Thorman-McKey registered a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Freshman guard/forward Darlisha Reed of Gary, Indiana also chipped in with 14 points. Haynes dished out a team-high five assists. Freshman guard Kaiya Braggs of Ruston, Louisiana led the team in steals with three.

"It was a great game," said Bucher. "We got close and cut into their lead a few times, but the biggest thing for us in the game was turnovers. We got away from utilizing the shot clock. When we were able to run the shot clock down, we were able to get good shots and limit their opportunities. We really made them work on defense and hurt them offensively as well. When we take the first shot with so much time remaining on the shot clock, it is a race to the other end."
