Lady Roadrunners defeat Crowder

The Lady Roadrunners (16-8, 5-2 in Region 16) defeated the Crowder College Lady Roughriders from Neosho 61-58 on Feb. 15 at the Davis Center. The game featured 13 lead changes and eight ties.

SFCC led 59-58 with 13.3 seconds remaining in the game. Sophomore center Kendra Boone challenged a layup attempt off a Crowder inbound play along the sideline. The Lady Roughriders had another opportunity, but freshman guard Ren'Cia Rolling stole the inbound pass with 1.5 seconds remaining in the game.

"Kendra made a great play by just extending her arms," said Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We knew that Crowder was going to look for the lob on that play. Ren'Cia made another big defensive play at the end of the game."

Freshman guard/forward Catie Kaifes continued her hot shooting, scoring a team-high 21 points and knocking down seven three-point shots. Boone contributed 10 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Rolling dished out a team-high five assists. Sophomore guard Alexis Cowan registered a team-high four steals.

Coach Bucher was very pleased with the big crowd in attendance at the game.

"It was a great student crowd," said Bucher. "They were boisterous, and we needed that down the stretch." The Lady Roadrunners will play at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 18 for Homecoming and Sophomore Night against the Moberly Area Community College Lady Greyhounds in another Region 16 game.
