Lady Roadrunners defeat Lady Greyhounds

The Lady Roadrunners traveled to Moberly on Jan. 18 for a key Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game. SFCC (11-6, 1-1 in Region 16, 2-1 in the MCCAC) erased a 10-point second quarter deficit to emerge with a hard-fought 67-65 win.

SFCC began the game with an 8-2 run; all points came from sophomore guard Alexis Cowan. Moberly made a run to take a 34-29 lead into halftime; however, SFCC outscored Moberly 22-14 to erase the deficit and take a 51-48 lead. In the final quarter Moberly once again tied the score, but Cowan made a three-point shot to break the tie. She stole the ball twice in the final 10 seconds to seal the victory. The game featured 13 lead changes.

Cowan knocked down six three-point shots, grabbed four rebounds, recorded a team-high four steals, and finished the game with 26 points. Freshman guard/forward Catie Kaifes pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Danaé Cole dished out a team-high four assists. Freshman center Grace Morrow registered two blocked shots.

"We've talked about coming out and playing physical," said Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "Our players really stepped up. A big key was Alexis hitting those three-point shots to keep us in the game. She had one of the best performances that I've seen. Alexis did a great job on both ends of the floor."

SFCC will travel to Hillsboro on Jan. 21 to take on the Jefferson College Lady Vikings in another Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
