Lady Roadrunners defeat Lady Archers

The Lady Roadrunners took on the St. Louis Community College Lady Archers on Dec. 7. SFCC (8-5, 1-0 in the MCCAC) saw a 21-point lead disappear in the third quarter but in the final minutes pulled off a 77-68 win.
In the first quarter, SFCC trailed 14-5 with just over five minutes remaining. Freshman guard Takayla Gunter gave the Roadrunners a 22-19 lead with a three-point basket. By halftime, the Roadrunners led 36-29 and extended the lead by 21 points in the third quarter.
With less than eight minutes in the fourth quarter, the Archers had pushed to take a 58-57 lead. SFCC took the lead back at 59-58, and freshman guard/forward Catie Kaifes put the game away with a pair of three-point baskets that gave SFCC a 71-64 lead with two minutes on the game clock.
Gunter led five Lady Roadrunners in double figures with 16 points and recorded a team-high six assists. Freshman guard Ren'Cia Rolling contributed 14 points. Kaifes added 13 points and a team-high two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Alexis Cowan scored 11 points, and sophomore guard Danaé Cole pitched in 10 and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Maya Brewer led in steals with four.
The Lady Roadrunners will return to the game floor at 5 p.m. Jan. 6 when they travel to Marshall to take on the Missouri Valley College junior varsity.
