Lady Pioneers defeat Lady Roadrunners

Two ranked teams took to the floor Nov. 22 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. The North Arkansas College Lady Pioneers,ranked fourth in NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball, used a 49-37 rebounding advantage to defeat the Lady Roadrunners (4-4), ranked 18th in NJCAA Division I, by a score of 68-63.

 A three-point basket from sophomore guard Alexis Cowan tied the score at 19 in a game that featured 13 lead changes and eight ties. At halftime, the score was tied at 35. 

In the third quarter, the Lady Pioneers outscored the Lady Roadrunners 17-12. SFCC cut the deficit to two points at 59-57 with just over three minutes remaining in fourth quarter, but North Arkansas pushed their lead to 66-59, the biggest of the game. 

Alexis Cowan was the only Lady Roadrunner in double-figures with 15 points. Sophomore guard Danaé Cole chipped in nine points. Freshman guard Maya Brewer pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Cole, Alexis Cowan and freshman guard/forward Catie Kaifes tied for the team lead in assists with three. Sophomore center Kendra Boone, Brewer and freshman center Grace Morrow registered two blocks each. Sophomore guard Aaliyah Cowan led in steals with three. 

The Lady Roadrunners return to action on the road Nov. 25-26 at the Midwest Bone and Joint Center Classic in Moberly. SFCC will take on Highland Community College on Friday at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the Lady Roadrunners will play Lincoln Land Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. for both games.
