Lady Roadrunners Win Seventh Straight Game

The 23rd-ranked Lady Roadrunners broke open a close game in the last eight minutes to defeat the 19th-ranked Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors from Mount Caramel, Illinois, 87-64 as part of the opening round of the Stone Laser Imaging Classic Nov. 14 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

"When we got to the eight-minute mark, we still had our legs," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We were able to get some steals and make some layups."

SFCC (7-0) also shot the ball well from beyond the three-point arc, shooting 11 of 23 as a team. Freshman guard Sierra Clayborn knocked down four three-point shots and fellow freshman guard Maura Skidmore made three three-pointers.

"We have a lot of young ladies who can hit the three-point shot; it comes down to confidence and stepping up and making the shot," said Bucher. "Wabash was really doubling down on Alecia Cooley. Sierra hit some tough three-point shots and Maura also hit some big shots for us."

Sophomore guard Sannayyiah Johnson led four Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to finish her double double. Skidmore contributed 17 points and Clayborn added 15. Cooley registered a double double with 15 points, pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds and led the team with three blocked shots and four steals. Freshman guard/forward Zhanesha Dickerson dished out a team-high four assists.
