Second Half Run Leads SFCC to Victory

The 12th-ranked Lady Roadrunners used a 37-16 run from the 15-minute mark of the second half to break open a close game and emerge with an 83-56 victory over the St. Louis Community College Lady Archers Feb. 4 in a Missouri Community College Athletic Conference matchup in St. Louis. The win was the seventh in a row for SFCC (17-5, 5-0 in the MCCAC).

"St. Louis was fatigued," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We were still able to get up and down the floor. We got the rebounds and threw the ball down the floor to either Maura Skidmore or Erin Boothe on the fast breaks and they were able to score on wide-open layups."

Alecia Cooley recorded another double double for SFCC with 25 points and 15 rebounds, registered a team-high two blocked shots and dished out five assists. Skidmore contributed 16 points and five rebounds. Zhanesha Dickerson added another double double for the Lady Roadrunners with 13 points and 11 rebounds off of the bench. Boothe pitched in with 11 points and a team-high eight assists.

SFCC dished out 23 assists as a team and shot 13 of 18 from the free-throw line.

The Lady Roadrunners return to Region 16 play Feb. 7 when they take on Three Rivers Community College at 5 p.m. in Poplar Bluff. The game is also part of the MCCAC schedule.

"I've heard Three Rivers has been shooting a lot of three-point shots," said Bucher. "We have to put pressure on them and make them put the ball on the floor. We need to use our full-court pressure to wear their legs down. I'm sure we'll have to make some outside shots because teams have been double teaming Cooley; to her credit, she's done a good job finding open teammates."
