Lady Roadrunners Defeat Lady Greyhounds

The 17th-ranked Lady Roadrunners overcame a sluggish start to defeat the Moberly Area Community College Lady Greyhounds 80-49 Jan. 14 in a big Region 16 contest in Moberly.

SFCC (12-5, 2-0 in Region 16) was able to get its full-court pressure defense going late in the first half to take a 41-24 lead into the locker room. The Lady Roadrunners went on an 11-2 run to begin the second half and put the game out of reach.

"Our subs did a nice job keeping the pressure on Moberly," said Bucher. "At the beginning of the second half we came out very aggressively. We had several blocked shots and steals from our pressure."

Sophomore center Alecia Cooley registered a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, leading in both categories. Freshman guard/forward Zhanesha Dickerson contributed 14 points, led the team in blocked shots with three and tied for the team lead in assists with four, along with freshman guard Sierra Clayborn. Sophomore guard Erin Boothe added 13 points. Sophomore guard Derriel Banyard led the team in steals with four. SFCC forced 20 Moberly turnovers.

"Everyone scored in the game," said Bucher. "It was a balanced effort. Erin Boothe had a really good game. She knocked down three three-point shots, which was great. We out-rebounded Moberly 53 to 31, which was a big factor in the game. Defensively, we played an outstanding game."

SFCC will travel to Hillsboro Jan. 17 to take on the Jefferson College Lady Vikings in another Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
