Roadrunners Deliver Strong Performance at Tri-State Event
State Fair Community College (SFCC) shooting sports team added to its collection of awards at the Tri-State Shoot Off on Feb. 22-23 at the Remington Gun Club.
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) shooting sports team added to its collection of awards at the Tri-State Shoot Off on Feb. 22-23 at the Remington Gun Club.
The competition featured 100 rounds each in American trap, American skeet and sporting clays.
SFCC won first place in the High Overall Team category. The team included sophomore Landon Schachtele, Armstrong, who scored 88 in American trap, 96 in American skeet and 92 in sporting clays. Freshman Mason Rohan, Laddonia, posted scores of 90 in trap, 96 in skeet and 86 in sporting clays. Freshman Alexander Hill, Belton, registered 94 in trap, 88 in skeet and 85 in sporting clays. Freshman David Thomlinson, Hughesville, shot 92 in trap, 92 in skeet and 82 in sporting clays. Sophomore Bailey Carter, Montrose, scored 93 in trap, 93 in skeet and 80 in sporting clays.
Freshman Ava Cooper, West Plains, placed second in High Overall Female following a shoot-off. She tied for first in sporting clays, won the shoot-off, placed first in skeet and took third in trap.
Schachtele finished second in High Overall Male and was runner-up in sporting clays after a shoot-off.
Rohan placed third in skeet after a shoot-off, while freshman Mitchell O'Reilly, Belton, was second in trap after a shoot-off. Hill won the American trap event following a shoot-off.
"Our kids did a fantastic job, which is nice to see later in the season," said head coach Sarah Manuel. "We have a long season, but this event had a lot of great highlights. I'm proud of their progress and excited to see their confidence build. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum through our final two events, including our national tournament."
SFCC competes next at the ACUI Central Midwest Regional in Sparta, Illinois, beginning Thursday, Feb. 27.
"I'm just excited to see what they'll do this weekend at the ACUI Regional," Manuel said. "I'd also like to congratulate Caleb Hensley on shooting his first 25 in American skeet and Tristan Salmons for doing the same."
