The State Fair Community College (SFCC) shooting sports team brought home some more hardware from the Owls Spring Invitational hosted by William Woods University at Prairie Grove Shotgun Park in Columbia, Missouri on Feb. 8-9.
The event consisted of 100 American Trap, 100 American Skeet, and 100 Sporting Clays.
SFCC earned Top Team High Overall by 41 birds over the second-place team. That team consisted of freshman David Thomlinson of Hughesville; freshman Broc Barnes of West Plains; freshman Austin Livengood of Crest Ridge; sophomore Landon Schachtele of Armstrong; and freshman Mason Rohen of Laddonia.
"This is a very young team," said Head Coach Sarah Manuel. "It's very impressive to see a team with only one sophomore stepping up and putting up those big numbers. We are coming into the latter half of our season and getting ready for Nationals. To be able to see young kids step up is very exciting. Broc Barnes and (freshman) Tristan Salmons (of Mexico, Missouri) also shot their first 25 in American Skeet which is a perfect round."
Thomlinson secured first place In American Trap with a score of 95 out of 100. Thomlinson also earned the High Overall shooter for the competition with a 95 in American Trap, 92 in American Skeet, and a 75 in Sporting Clays
Barnes tied for first place in American Skeet with a 92 out of 100, but ended up in second place after a shoot off.
The shooting sports team will have the weekend off from competition before they return to competition in Arkansas on Feb. 22-23.
