The State Fair Community College (SFCC) shooting sports team participated in the Drury University Panther Classic Sept. 7 - 8. The American Trap and American Skeet events took place at the Springfield Rod and Gun. The Sporting Clays competition was held at Ozark Shooters Complex. Each discipline consisted of 100 targets per participant.
"This weekend was really about having the kids experience the competition," said Head Coach Sarah Manuel. "Sophomore Bailey Carter was a great leader throughout the entire weekend. I know that adds a little bit of stress to him trying to lead this team, but he did an excellent job. Freshman Alexander Hill didn't let the nerves get to him, he was in the top two or three for our team in all three events. I was also very proud of our team for taking second overall out of nine schools. We finished second at Drury University by 90 birds. We finished with a total of 1,508.
"Cameron Karbinas joined our program so he could continue his career," said Manuel. "He ended up with his highest score ever with a 92 in American Trap. I was very proud of that moment this weekend."
SFCC will now begin preparations for the ACUI Central Regional in Sparta, Illinois on Thursday, October 10.
