The State Fair College (SFCC) shooting sports team hosted Missouri Valley College and William Woods University in an exhibition shoot at the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club on Wednesday, September 4 in Sedalia.
The event consisted of 100 America Trap birds per participant. There was a total of 42 individuals representing the three schools, 18 of which were from SFCC.
"This was my first opportunity in competition to be able to see how our kids are gelling as a team," said Head Coach Sarah Manuel.
The top scores at the event for SFCC were sophomore Bailey Carter with a score of 95 out of 100. Freshman Alexander Hill had a 94. Freshman Mason Rohan shot 91 and freshman Tristan Salmons shot 90. Freshman Mitchell O'Reilly recorded an 87. As a team, SFCC shot 457 out of 500.
"We have a good mixture of kids," said Manuel. "Only one of our top scores came from a sophomore. Our freshmen really stepped up. Austin Livengood impressed me. He has meshed well with the team. He has done everything I've asked him to do. I feel he will become a leader for us. Ava Cooper was also very impressive.
"We have a long way to go and a short time to get there but, I think these kids will step up," said Manuel. "I'm really proud of what our kids did on Wednesday, and I look forward to seeing what strides we can make at Drury this weekend."
