SFCC to add Archery

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Athletic Department has announced the addition of archery to its athletic offerings beginning in the fall of 2024. The program will emerge under the umbrella of the current Shooting Sports team. It will be led by Head Coach Sarah Manuel.

SFCC will compete against many different size colleges and universities across the United States under the governing body USA Archery. In the fall, the Roadrunners will compete in 3D archery. Participants will shoot at targets in the shape of animals. The Roadrunners will compete in Olympic Indoor archery in the spring and Olympic outdoor archery in the spring and summer.

The season will begin in August. The first regional competition for 3D targets will be September 21-22 at Rend Lake College in Illinois.

SFCC has already received a commitment from Leann Drake from Lexington, who is on track to compete to qualify for the United States of America National Team.

"We are very excited to bring a sport into the community that a lot of students participate in at the high school level," said Manuel. "This will allow them to have an opportunity to compete at the next level and continue their academic and athletic careers at State Fair Community College. We are the first community college in the state of Missouri to offer Archery as a team sport."

SFCC is actively recruiting student-athletes for archery. Any prospective student-athlete can fill out the recruitment form, found on the SFCC athletics website, sfccmoroadrunners.com. Go to the Inside Athletics sub-menu, then Recruit Me.
