Lady Roadrunners softball season ends in Region 16 Tournament

May 2 Crowder College Region 16 Tournament at Hillsboro, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners softball team fell 5-3 in a hard-fought contest to Crowder College in the opening round of the Region 16 Softball Tournament on Thursday afternoon, May 2 in Hillsboro. SFCC hit three solo home runs and only five hits total.

Utility player Bailey Haselhorst had two hits, including a home run to lead the offensive attack. Outfielder Jaelyn Winfrey also hit a home run, drove in a run, and scored a run. Outfielder Becca Hall hit a home run, drove in a run, scored one run and drew a walk. Sophomore middle infielder Sami Picha also registered a hit in the contest.

Pitcher Charlee Reese went the distance for SFCC and gave up five runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked one. Reese gave up two home runs.

May 3 North Central Missouri College Region 16 Tournament in Park Hills, Missouri

SFCC (27-27) fell 11-3 in five innings because of the run rule to North Central Missouri College in the Region 16 Tournament in Park Hills on Friday evening, May 3. The game was moved because of rain overnight in Hillsboro.

The SFCC offense was held to only five hits in the game. Winfrey had two hits, including a double and a run scored. Picha added a double, a run scored and an RBI. Haselhorst had a hit and a run scored. Hall contributed a hit and an RBI.

Pitcher/utility player Aireanna Hoeppner got the start and gave up six runs, (two earned runs) on five hits, struck out one and walked two in two innings. Grace VanDenburgh came out of the bullpen and pitched one inning, gave up four runs on three hits and walked two. Reese finished the final inning, gave up one run on two hits and walked two.

SFCC has broken the program record for wins in a season with 27 and finished the year with the second-best record in the history of the program by winning percentage. They broke the record for wins previously held by the 2019 team which finished the season with 26 wins.
